1LEE-ON-THE SOLENT RAILWAY issued 3rd single from Fort Brockhurst to Lee-on-the-Solent. The line opened on 12/5/1894 and closed on 1/1/1931. It was obviously well used initially as this ticket, which is numbered 676, was issued on the 5th day of operation – 17/5/1894. (1)£120
2CRANWELL RAILWAY 2¼” x 1½” thin card 3rd class one-piece return from Cranwell to Sleaford. This line was opened to passenger traffic in 1917 – initially for use by the contractor. Regular services ceased in 1927, although special trains ran until 1956. Note that the printing on this ticket is a little different from that of lot 265 in our November 2005 auction. (1).£140

5DISTRICT RAILWAY issued T3 PLATFORM TICKET from Walham Green 1 (dated 1/10/192x), together with an unissued T1 two-piece ‘Platform Permit’ Mansion House with skeleton ‘M’ overprints, and a two-piece ticket available for passing through Earls Court Station to Warwick Road / Earls Court Rd Exit. 6SOUTH WALES BUS OPERATORS: Numeric stage punch type BUS TICKETS from H.J. CRIDLAND & SONS, Port Talbot and Cardiff, RALPH’S GARAGES, THE GRIFFIN OMNIBUS SERVICES, 2 x THE SOUTH WALES TRANSPORT CO. LTD. (one with a Bell Punch Uxbridge 11-23 imprint), and WESTERN WELSH OMNIBUS CO. LTD., plus 2 Willebrew issues from the latter operator. Cridland started operations in Cardiff in 1895, Ralph’s was based at Abertillery and it is believed that this was the Griffin concern based at Brynmawr. (8)£100
7JERSEY; An undated 1st single St. Aubins to Millbrook titled JERSEY RAILWAY, together an issued 2nd single St. Helier’s to Cheapside, an undated 1st return for the same journey, an undated 1st single Don’s Bridge to St. Aubin’s and a severed half, all titled THE JERSEY RAILWAYS CO. LTD. Two folding card season tickets are also included in the lot. One is a 2nd class issue from St. Helier to St. Aubin (though shown as St. Aubin to St. Helier on the outside), which was valid from 1st January to 31st March 1874. This is tilted ‘Jersey Railway Company Limited’ on the outside, though the ‘Limited’ is omitted from the inside The cover of other shows that it is a ‘Jersey Railway Company Limited’ 1st Class Season Ticket available between Millbrook or First Tower and St. Helier, while the inside shows that it is a ‘Jersey Railway’ 1st return St. Helier to Millbrook. This has been altered in pen to Free Pass, the destination altered to St. Aubins and valid in June 1881 (a little staining). (6wh 1 hlf)£420

Condition is mostly good with some unusual / rare issues noted. Note: This is the continuation of the disposal of a comprehensive collection of London Bus, Tram and Trolleybus tickets assembled over 50 years ago which commenced in 2001. They have been sorted and assembled into “geographical” areas and in this catalogue the theme is ‘North London Miscellany’. 48CALEDONIAN RAILWAY issued 3rd single from Annan (closed 27/4/1931) to Harrington (dated 24/7/1903). The journey was via the Solway Viaduct, over which passenger services ceased in 1914. Thereafter Annan was just the terminus of a branch to Kirtlebridge. The ticket has a lot of paper on the back from previous mounting, but it should be possible to remove it with care. (1)£260

This company re-opened and electrified the former Dudley & Stourbridge Steam Tramways route in 1898, but passed into the hands of the Birmingham Midland Tramways Joint Committee on 1/7/1904. Tickets, however, continued to be printed with the company’s title. The ‘Ordinary’ ticket is by Bell Punch Uxbridge and has a 10-24 imprint; the Workman’s single is by Bell Punch London and dates from 1921/22. Both in VGC. (2)£55
