16WOLVERHAMPTON CORPORATION TRAMWAYS: Geographical stage punch type TRAM TICKETS comprising 2d pink for the Bilston Section, 1½d green Exchange and 2½d blue for the Bilston & Willenhall Sections, together with 1½d white, 1½d mauve and 3½d white with 6 numerical stages. The Bilston line closed on 26/8/1928. All of the tickets have a little mounting paper on the backs, while the 2½d issue has small stain marks on the face. (6)£70

18LCC TRAMWAYS (43)/LPTB TRAMWAYS (35): A collection of punch type TRAM TICKETS loose mounted on card in an album, with historical notes. The tickets all bear codes 67 and 68 and are primarily from Services 55, 57 and 81, but also include Services 7E, 8E, 71, 77, 87 and 97. The condition is mainly VG. Note: This is the one of 18 lots in this auction that were part of a comprehensive collection of London Bus, Tram and Trolleybus tickets assembled over 50 years ago, which we have been offering since 2001 and has now come to an end. 19SEVERN & WYE & SEVERN BRIDGE RAILWAY issued 3rd singles from Lydney Junction to Severn Bridge (/) and Severn Bridge to Lydney Town, both dated 17/10/1879 – the official opening date of the Severn Bridge. The latter print – which is only numbered ‘03’ – has the destination altered in ink to Sharpness. This indicates that the objective of the vast majority of people on this day was to cross the new Severn Bridge, and that the demand for singles from Severn Bridge to Sharpness exceeded the printed stock, necessitating the booking clerk to improvise. The company was authorised to rebuild the defunct 3’ 6” gauge Hartlepool Steam Tramways using overhead electric power and was opened on 19th May 1896 finally reaching nearly 7 miles in length. West Hartlepool Corporation took over the system in August 1912.  The system finally succumbed to trolleybus replacement when the Seaton Carew line closed on 25th March 1927.  A rare example, but with a little glue on the back from previous mounting. A section of unused Bell Punch tickets consisting of 2d light blue (B4 series), 4d pink (C2), and 5d green (B6) Singles, 7d green (BX2) Cheap Day Return, and 6d olive (C1) Return. When the line opened there were two series of tickets – A & B for singles and AX & BX for Cheap Day Returns – although the returns invariably on offer are from a fare rise just 3 weeks after the line’s opening! The 2d single ticket with the B4 reference is not from the original series – dating from 1928 or later, while the C1 and C2 prints date from late 1935. The 2d single is a little faded and the two green tickets have minor fading at the edges, otherwise in VGC. (5)£65
