1GOLDEN VALLEY RAILWAY issued 3rd Parly single Dorstone to Pontrilas in VGC. The date stamp is very light, but the ticket appears to have been issued in 04.1897. The GVR opened on 1/9/1881, but closed on 20/4/1898. It was subsequently taken over by the GWR and re-opened in 1901. (1)£330
2FRESHWATER, YARMOUTH & NEWPORT RAILWAY issued return from Newport to Carisbrooke with the misprint “1st Class Parly”. The ticket, which is dated 1/10/1913, is in good condition, but has excess paper on the back from previous mounting. (1)£220

7GREAT NORTHERN RAILWAY 2nd single Cuffley to Enfield, dated 9/4/1910. Both stations opened on 4/4/1910, the one at Enfield replacing an earlier structure on the extension of the line northwards. It will be noted that the ticket is numbered “0000”, so it was several days before someone made this particular journey. Cuffley was renamed Cuffley & Goff’s Oak on 25/5/1910. (1)£70
8LUTON CORPORATION TRAMWAYS J.G. WHITE & CO. LESSEES 1d full geographical named stage punch type TRAM TICKET. J.G. White & Co. was the constructor of the system and leased it from its opening on 21/2/1908 until 1909, when the lease was awarded to Balfour Beatty. This ticket is different from that offered as lot 298, which includes “Ltd.” in the title, but only shows the names of the stages rather than the actual journeys. (1)£60
9THE DYKE BRANCH: A Southern Railway 3d bicycle single, dated 18/12/1938, for a journey not exceeding 10 miles from The Dyke, in excellent condition, together with an issued SR punch type 3rd Cheap Day return from Rowan Halt (opened 18/12/1933) to Hove. In good condition, but with a little fading. The branch closed on 1/1/1939. (2)£50
10GREAT WESTERN RAILWAY post-grouping buff 3rd single Shipston on Stour to Longdon Road, issued on 6/7/1929, the last day of operation at both stations. The face of the ticket is in VGC; the back has a little Bd from previous mounting. (1)£170
11CYPRUS GOVERNMENT RAILWAY issued 2nd single Famagusta to Nicosia, together with 3rd singles from Famagusta to Mousoulita and Yenagra, and from Nicosia to Trakhoni. The tickets were issued between 1936 and 1938 and are generally in good / VGC. The ticket to Yenagra has a light vertical crease, while a couple of others have glue marks on the backs from previous mounting. (4)£90
12LONDON & NORTH WESTERN RAILWAY 2nd single from Royal Show Ground St’n No.1 to Uxbridge Road, with serial number “000” and date of 23/6/1903 (Bd). 21LNER 3rd single Hazlehead Bridge to Penistone, dated 3/7/1932. Hazlehead Bridge was situated at a rather remote location on the Woodhead route. The train service was sparse. In the summer of 1933 – the year after this ticket was issued – it was only served by one Up train on weekdays – at 6.36am. On Sundays, however, it faired much better with 3 trains calling – presumably for the benefit of walkers. This particular ticket was issued on a Sunday. The station eventually closed on 6/3/1950, having been in existence for a few months short of 100 years. (1)£220

28WREXHAM & DISTRICT TRANSPORT CO. LTD. 10½d numbered stage punch type BUS TICKET (also with days of the week) with Bell Punch 0935 imprint (c.4/1929), together with WESTERN TRANSPORT CO. LTD. numbered stage issues at 2d, 3½d (both with skeleton fare overprints), 4d, 5d, 6d and 8d, with Axxx imprints (1930/31). A couple are a little worn, otherwise condition is good. The Wrexham & District title dates from 1914. The company was renamed Western Transport c.1930, and passed to Crosville in 1933. (7)£65

57NORTH STAFFS AND ADJACENT LINES comprising an issued NS&L&NW Rys Mr R. D’Oyly Carte’s O Co’s Tour 3rd Parly Single Hanley to Oldham Clegg Street on 11th February 1895 (L&NWR print), together with 17 issued and 7 audit LM&SR, 18 issued and 2 audit BR, 5 unused Belle Vue Ltd admission tickets in connection with rail journeys, 6 LM&SR severed halves, and 2 used GC&NSR season tickets. A good proportion of the LM&SR and BR tickets are for journeys to and from Macclesfield Hibel Road, but stations such as Bosley and Rocester are included in the LM&SR issued, and Kingsley & Froghall in the BR issued. Both are rather dark, possibly through exposure to heat. The B&GR was opened on 8/7/1844. The Midland worked the line from 7/5/1845. The Grand Junction became a constituent of the L&NWR in 1846.
