This system operated from 25/8/1906 to 30/1/1932, although for the last 10 years it also ran bus services. (4)£100

22BRITISH RAILWAYS EXCURSION TICKETS: A collection of 102 used pre-dated one-piece prints, mainly from March and April 1952, and all numbered “000”. The tickets were specially sorted in the audit office and originally stuck onto paper along their left sides, and therefore have excess paper on the backs, which should be removable with care. Thirty-eight are from closed stations such as Ashton Oldham Road, Bassenthwaite Lake, Brigham, Chatburn, Clitheroe, Denstone, Feniscowles, Hucknall Central, Ilkeston Jc. & Cossall, Kingsley & Froghall, Kirkby-in-Ashfield Central, Langho, Leek, Moor Row, Normacot, Ramsbottom, Willenhall, Wilpshire, and Withnell. A few have minor creases, which inevitably happened on the types of journeys that were so common at that time, but which today’s railways no longer cater for. (102)£55

The first two tickets have creases, while the last one has two small pinholes and an ink endorsement on the back. The lot also includes a colourful 3" x 2" 3rd Season Ticket of unspecified validity – probably weekly – for use between “Liverpool St. (Met), Broad St., GN & City (Electric) Railway and Wood Green & Alexandra Palace” available until 31/8/1920 and in excellent condition. 188THE HARTLEPOOL ELECTRIC TRAMWAYS 2d blue punch type TRAM TICKET covering journeys between Hartlepool and West Hartlepool and Seaton and Church St, in VGC. The company was authorised to rebuild the defunct 3’ 6” gauge Hartlepool Steam Tramways using overhead electric power and was opened on 19/5/1896, finally reaching nearly 7 miles in length. West Hartlepool Corporation took over the system in August 1912.  It finally succumbed to trolleybus replacement when the Seaton Carew line closed on 25/3/1927.  (1)£30

The lot also includes an unused 3” x 4¼” folding leatherette 1st Class Free Pass from the K&ESR for 1945 in excellent condition. Both passes bear the name of W.H. 346CALEDONIAN STEAM-PACKET CO. LTD. A white Edmondson for an Evening Cruise on the Steamer Marchioness of Bute, dry date stamped (Thursday) 16/7/1896, and in VGC. This vessel was built by John Reid & Co. in 1896 and was originally introduced on the Wemyss Bay to Rothesay service. It became spare in 1908 and was sold to D&J Nicol for services on the Tay. Following the outbreak of WW1 it first became a minesweeper at Portsmouth, and then a hospital ship. It was laid up after the war, and eventually scrapped in 1923. (1)£20
