Only three printed stages shown with the directions “To Sheffield” and “From Sheffield.” The tramway opened in October 1873 and was taken over by the Corporation in July 1896 becoming part of a huge system which lasted until March 1960. 16LCC TRAMS CHILD TICKETS. Eleven named stage punch type TRAM TICKETS from North London routes. Nine are ½d values, two, both from Service 53a, have “Child’s Ticket” printed vertically in full, one being an earlier salmon coloured issue, the other having pale yellow edges. The remaining ½d tickets have the late “CT” abbreviation below the fare value. There are also three white 1d prints, one with “Childs Ticket” vertical overprint, the other two with “CT” overprint. The lot also includes an ordinary (i.e. non-“Child”) issue from service 53b. (12)£80

Fares range from ½d to 5d and services covered are 5, 9, 11, 17/23, 27, 31, 37, 45, 48 and 86. All are in VGC, although two have minor paper residue on the backs. (10)£65
19GREAT WESTERN RAILWAY folding 1st class FREE PASS for the years 1947 and 1948 in favour of Mr J Matthews (GWR) for all GWR stations in England, also Channel islands. Leatherette cover with coat of arms and the years 1947 and 1948 tooled in gold. Corner to corner crosses indicate that the pass was not available to all GWR stations. VGC. (1)£360
20WEST RIDING RAILWAY issued 1st class Sgls Doncaster to Wakefield Westgate Station by GN Train and Wakefield Westgate St’n to Doncaster, dated September 1868 and November 1877 respectively. Three whole returns included. The earliest dates appear to be 1881 on a green card 3rd Parly Sgl Baker Street – Kings Cross (/) and a buff 3rd Sgl Moorgate Street – Kings Cross. York Road was opened on 1/5/1867 and renamed York Road & Battersea Park on 1/11/1870, the name was again changed to Battersea Park & York Road on 1/1/1877 and finally to Battersea Park on 1/6/1885. 2¼” diameter and in good condition. 100DUNDEE AND PERTH RAILWAY a 3½” wide x 7½” long green paper undated EXCURSION TICKET for a 3rd Class & Steerage Excursion from Dundee to Lochlomond and Back. The base of the ticket comprises four perforated tear-off strips valid for various sections of the trip on the Loch Steamer, Forth & Clyde Junction Railway, Scottish Central Railway and Dundee & Perth Railway. The Dundee & Perth opened in May 1847 and was renamed Dundee Perth & Aberdeen Railway in August 1848. It was vested with the Scottish Central Railway in June 1863. The Forth & Clyde opened in March 1856 and leased to the NBR in August 1875. The Scottish Central was opened in March 1848 and amalgamated with the Caledonian in July 1865. The bottom section has been stuck to the top section using Sellotape, but fortunately without too much staining. The ticket is in very good condition for its age. (1)£110

244THE HIGHLAND SUTHERLAND AND DUKE OF SUTHERLAND AND SUTHERLAND AND CAITHNESS RAILWAYS 1/-d Joint PARCEL LABEL № 34 printed on green paper with black text. The Duke of Sutherland's Railway was built by the Duke when the Sutherland Railway, which had powers to build north to Brora, stopped at Golspie. He also built the next 11 miles to West Helmsdale, also known as Gartymore. He operated the line from opening on 1 November 1870 until the extension to Helmsdale and north into Caithness was built, from when the Highland Railway took over the running of the line. West Helmsdale closed on 9 November 1871. The Highland Railway absorbed the line into their own network on 31 July 1884. An extremely rare example in excellent, virtually mint, condition. (1)N/S
245BIRMINGHAM CORPORATION WATERWORKS RAILWAY Free Ticket for the 2:15pm train from Rhayader to Craig Goch & Back, dated 23rd July 1904. The Birmingham Corporation Water Act passed in 1892 authorised the purchase of land in Mid Wales on the upper portion of the Rivers Elan and Claerwen. Three reservoirs on the Elan and three on the Claerwen were authorised, together with an aqueduct to carry the water to Birmingham. The engineer for the Elan aqueduct scheme was James Mansergh. Construction work started in 1893 and the Elan Valley Railway was built to aid construction. King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra performed the official opening on 21 July 1904 although building works were not completed until the end of 1906.  The majority of the EVR was lifted by 1912, with the final main line track being removed in 1916. A number of special trains were ruin for the public to view the considerable workings and this is one of the tickets issued. Unfortunately, it has a vertical crease at the centre, but otherwise it is in good condition. (1)£640

250GREAT WESTERN RAILWAY “Shareholder’s Trip” whole Edmondson dated 5th August 1864 between Tenbury & Bewdley “Available Once Only in Each Direction” on pink/white/blue striped card. This ticket was issued for a pre-opening special train which was run to show shareholders and promoters of the railway the completed works. Very rare and unusual to obtain a ticket dated before the public opening of a line. The ticket is in VGC. (1)£460
