The company commenced operations on 1/6/1874, but ran into financial difficulties by 1893. 11WESTON CLEVEDON & PORT-ISHEAD (STEAM) TRAMWAY geographical punch TRAM TICKET from Pier to Tramway Terminus and vice versa with large green letter “P” overprint issued from a roll. After a very protracted building period the line finally opened in 1897 from the Pier to the Tramway Terminus, but the local council, unhappy with the finished construction and the idea of a standard-gauge railway running through the streets, quickly forced this section to be closed and lifted. 498LPTB/LT(BUSES) proof fareboard geographical BUS TICKETS. Box containing in excess of 1,100 printer’s proofs for LPTB services/ routes 1 – 20 from the July 1933 to late 1940 period. Most fronts and backs are printed on separate card, although a few complete examples may appear. The fronts do not usually have the large fare value overprint, the value appearing in the text on both fronts and backs of each ticket, which is printed on the appropriate colour card for its value. Almost all have the date of approval by LPTB at the top in ink; a few are also overstamped “cancelled.” Not all changes may be represented on each route and, in some cases, only the side of the ticket with changes appears.
