This 3’ 6" gauge cable tramway was opened by the Highgate Tramway Co on 29/5/1884. Following an accident in 1892, the tramway ceased operation and the company went into liquidation. It reopened in 1897 with "Limited" status and closed 23/8/1909 being absorbed into the LCC who rebuilt and reopened the line some 8 months later with standard gauge.
