Castle Hedingham was renamed Sible & Castle Hedingham in September 1867, which indicates that this ticket was possibly from the original stock supplied to Yeldham in May1862. (1)£300
2CORK, BLACKROCK & PASSAGE RAILWAY issued 3rd single from Cork Albert Street to Blackrock (dated 5/4/1931), together with unissued 3rd singles from Carrigaline to Monkstown, and Raffeen to Passage. A selection of tickets which have been loose mounted on card with historical notes by the vendor is offered to show changes in stage names / route patterns during the period covered. Condition is mostly good with some unusual / rare issues noted. Note: This is the continuation of the disposal of a comprehensive collection of London Bus, Tram and Trolleybus tickets assembled over 50 years ago which commenced in 2001. They have been sorted and assembled into “geographical” areas and in this catalogue the theme is ‘Across the top of North London’. 61ASHOVER LIGHT RAILWAY. A 1½” x 2½” card ticket issued by the Ellis Travel Bureau, Chesterfield, covering a journey from Vicar Lane, Chesterfield, to the ALR’s Chesterfield Road station by Corporation bus, thence on the railway to Ashover Butts, with a plain tea in the ‘Where the Rainbow Ends’ café. This facility was introduced in the summer of 1935 and lasted a further year, following which the ALR passenger services were withdrawn. The ticket has a little creasing on the right and a small amount of back damage, but is one of only 3 known examples, all of which are for the outward journey and overstamped ‘Child’. A chance to obtain a particularly rare ticket! (1)£85

250Special 3” x 2” ‘PASS BEARER TO PLATFORM’ ticket issued at Burton-on-Trent on Tuesday 12th February 1901 to relatives of the ‘2nd Vol. Batt. Prince of Wales’s North Staff. Regiment’ travelling by 3.10pm special train to Lichfield.’ The ticket includes the text ‘Volunteers for the Front’ (presumably the South African War) and a vignette of a soldier. Burton was a Midland Railway station that became ‘closed’ for ticket purposes in October 1899. The train would have been operated by the L&NWR, which had running powers. A small amount of glue on left side front and back due to previous mounting. (1)£140

A section of unused Bell Punch tickets consisting of 1d (B1 series), 2d (B4), 4d (C2), 7d (B8), 8d (B9) and 10d (B11) Singles, 10d (BX5) Cheap Day Return, and 6d (C1) Return. When the line opened there were two series of tickets – A & B for singles and AX & BX for Cheap Day Returns – although the returns invariably on offer are from a fare rise just 3 weeks after the line’s opening! The 2d single ticket with the B4 reference is not from the original series – dating from 1928 or later, while the C1 and C2 prints date from late 1935. All of the tickets have a little back damage from previous mounting, while the 7d single is grubby. More examples in Jan and April. (8)£70
