Regiment’ travelling by 3.10pm special train to Lichfield.’ The ticket includes the text ‘Volunteers for the Front’ (presumably the South African War) and a vignette of a soldier. Burton was a Midland Railway station that became ‘closed’ for ticket purposes in October 1899. The train would have been operated by the L&NWR, which had running powers.
