3CITY OF BIRMINGHAM TRAMWAYS COMPANY LTD. punch type TRAM TICKETS comprising 1d blue/white Stafford Road to Vyse Street, 21/2d green New Inns to Colmore Row, and yellow ‘Exchange for Workmen’s 3d Return Ticket’ for the same journey. This concern took over the Birmingham Central Tramways Co. in 1896, but its lines were later absorbed by Birmingham Corporation, the last ones being transferred on 1/1/1912. (3)£80
4LIVERPOOL OVERHEAD RAILWAY CO (TRAMWAYS): A possibly unique set of three-coupon Edmondson returns, one covering the rail and TRAMWAY outward journey, one the tramway return journey and one the return rail journey. The tickets comprise 1st and 3rd class issues from Pierhead to Great Crosby and South Road and Workman returns from Pierhead to Great Crosby and Waterloo Road. All different colours. ‘Specimen’ is written on the back of all tickets, although one does bear a date of issue – 20/5/1908. (6)£45
5Corris Railway: Issued 1st class white 4d Bell Punch London single, showing all stations. The line was absorbed by the GWR on 4/8/1930 and closed to passenger traffic on 1/1/1931. (1)£85
6HASLINGDEN CORPORATION TRAMWAYS 3d orange punch type TRAM TICKET for the journey between Haslingden and Rawtenstall, together with a 1½d white alpha/numeric stage Workmen’s ticket. Both in VGC. The line closed on 30/4/1930. (2)£35
7DONEGAL RAILWAY issued 3rd Emigrant’s Ticket from Fintown to Londonderry Donegal Railway (dated 17/4/1903). The ticket has a couple of clips at the top – one of which has removed part of the company’s title – but this should not detract from the attractiveness of both the type and issuing station, which closed on 15/12/1947. 8SOUTH LONDON TRAMWAYS COMPANY: Three early Whiting punch type TRAM TICKETS comprising 1d white (various stages), 2d mauve (Wandsworth Town and Vauxhall Cross / Prince’s Head Tavern and Westminster Bridge), and 2d mauve (All the Way). All in VGC. This concern opened in 1881 and was purchased by London County Council in 1900 / 1902. (3)£60

18LGOC & ASSOCIATED COS. (15) and LPTB (BUSES) (27) all different fareboard geographical punch type BUS TICKETS from Services 80 & 180, 80 & 80A, 80, 180, 164, 165, 80 & 164, 80A & 164A, 89 and 128. A selection of tickets which have been loose mounted on card with historical notes by the vendor is offered to show changes in stage names/route patterns during the period covered. Condition is mostly good with some unusual/rare issues noted. Note: This is the continuation of the disposal of a comprehensive collection of London Bus, Tram and Trolleybus tickets assembled over 50 years ago which commenced in 2001. They have been sorted and assembled into “geographical” areas and in this catalogue the theme is ‘South West from London’. 24LONDON & SOUTH WESTERN RAILWAY type L96 semi-circular LUGGAGE LABEL to St Malo in red and white with the bold letter “O” at centre in VGC. It is thought that the letter “O” signified the capital letter of the owner’s surname to assist identification of luggage at the destination. A rare example. (1)£75
25STATIONS AROUND BRISTOL: LM&SR issued 3rd singles from 2 x Bath, Bristol Temple Meads, Fishponds, 3 x Fish Ponds, plus LM&S & GW JOINT RAILWAYS issued 3rd singles from Clifton Down, 2 x Montpelier. All bear dates in 1943 and are in VGC. Closed stations in destinations. (10)£30
26FARMERS MOTOR TRANSPORT OGMORE & GARW VALLEY 6d green numeric stage punch type BUS TICKET. The ticket is by Williamson and has an advert on the back for Tom Farmer of Pontycymmer. A small portion of paper is missing through previous mounting. (1)£30
27LNER: 100 issued and audit whole Edmondsons, including a number from closed stations. Digby, Keith Town, Kinaldie and Rossington noted. (Qty)£160
28COVENTRY CORPORATION TRAMWAYS punch type TRAM TICKETS comprising 2 x 1½d grey, 3d yellow, 4d white, and a 1¼d blue Exchange Ticket (for Prepaid Privilege Ticket), all with named stages; plus 1d blue, 2d white and 4½d mauve with numbered stages. The Coventry system closed on 24th December 1940, although services on some routes ceased as early as 1932. (8)£110
29A 4¾” x 3½” ‘RAILWAY TICKET’ admitting a Mourner to Join a 10.30am special Train from Paddington to Windsor, for THE DUKE OF TECK’S FUNERAL on 27/1/1900, and return at 12.30pm. The ticket is believed to have been produced by the Royal Household rather than the Great Western Railway, as it bears the name of the Lord Chamberlain. (1)£30

44SOUTH EASTERN RAILWAY/SE&CR set of LUGGAGE LABELS of type S71/12 in black printing on blue paper: London Bridge to Chartham; Chartham; Canterbury; Ramsgate; Margate; Sturry. Very early and scarce in excellent condition. Unlikely to appear as a set again for a long time. (6)£75
45HYTHE AND SANDGATE TRAMWAY 3d white roll-type TRAM TICKET. This horse-drawn tramway was purchased by the South Eastern Railway in 1893 and closed on 30/9/1921, although it had previously been closed during the WW1 and did not re-open until Whitsun 1919. (1)£65
46AYR CORPORATION TRAMWAYS 2d yellow named stage punch type TRAM TICKET by GNP. The Ayr system opened in 1901 and closed on 31/1/1931. (1)£80

The NBR is the most represented company (10), while there are some uncommon types (e.g. Golfer, Officer in Uniform) and closed stations (e.g. Kincardine, Stobs, Wimborne). (50)£140
60LNER issued 2nd Child Single from Chathill to Seahouses N.S. Rly. The ticket is in VGC apart from some paper on the back, which has obliterated the date. This, however, must have been before 29/10/1951 when the much lamented North Sunderland Railway closed. (1)£85
61CHESHIRE LINES COMMITTEE issued Pre-Grouping 3rd revised fare single from Chester N to Chester Liverpool Road, plus Pre-nationalisation issued whole Edmondsons from 3 x Chester Northgate, 4 x Padgate and 3 x Warrington Cen (1 = iu). 64BRISTOL CHANNEL STEAMERS: A single coupon Edmondson return STEAMER TICKET from Swansea to Ilfracombe titled POCKETT’S BRISTOL CHANNEL STEAM PACKET COY, LIMITED and a half from that concern; an Edmondson 6d landing ticket titled BARRY & BRISTOL CHANNEL STEAMSHIP COMPANY and two halves from THE BRISTOL CHANNEL PASSENGER BOAT COMPANY. 65HIGHLAND RAILWAY: A rare but undated 3rd Parly single from Rathven to Enzie. These stations were on the branch from Keith to Portessie, which opened on 1/1/1884 and closed on 9/8/1915 due to wartime staff shortages. Rathven had just one Station Master during this time – Allan Kennedy – whom, it is believed, retained this ticket when the station closed. (1)£840

The 3d single ticket with the B5 reference and the 1/- CDR were printed in 1928 or later. All of the tickets have a little back damage from previous mounting, while the 7d tickets are grubby.
