When the line opened there were two series of single tickets – A and B. However, while all the tickets in this lot bear Bell Punch Uxbridge 3-25 imprints it is known that the 2d B4 series is a reprint. from 1928, or slightly later, while the 4d C2 issue dates from November 1935. The four original adverts (Ash. 1 to 4), and the later “No.0329” are all represented on the backs. In excellent condition, other than the 8d issue, which has a little Bd from previous mounting. The tickets, 11 of which are by Williamson and one by Bell Punch London, are from 5 different series. The oldest, is the one by Bell Punch (endorsed “First issue” on the back). Reference to the company only appears on the back and, interestingly, a headquarters at Tunstall (ticket a little foxed). What appear to be the first Williamson prints, make reference on the backs to “improved char-a-bancs” and “Hamil Garage Burslem”. Two later, and somewhat similar prints bear the title Cooke, Robinson & Co. Ltd. One of the later series has “Tunstall-Longton” instead of “inwards” and “outwards” on the face, while the other series is full geographical. (12) | £120 |
